Dunn Solutions Mentors Internal Team in Design and Development of Company Intranet

A manufacturer of small appliances purchased Liferay 6.1 EE for the development of a company intranet. The intranet will serve the employee and consultant community using Liferay features including: a user directory, document library, company calendar, companywide alerts and blogs/wikis.

The company's internal development team had completed Liferay Admin training, however the initial phases of the project required an expert's guidance. It was critical that the organizational structure be configured correctly and the internal team needed assistance with themes, layouts and page templates.

Dunn Solutions, a trusted Liferay services partner, was enlisted to support the internal team for the first phases of the intranet project. Dunn Solutions provided a Liferay Consultant and Liferay Theme Developer to work directly with the internal team. To maximize its budget, the company opted to have the Dunn Team work remotely via conference calls and screen sharing. The Dunn Liferay Consultant provided validation of the intranet's organizational structure, portlet design and configuration, while the Dunn Liferay Theme Developer executed on the development deliverables such as custom themes, templates and page layouts. A Knowledge Transfer document was created and reviewed with the internal team at the conclusion of the Dunn Team phases.

The internal development team leveraged Dunn Solutions as a mentoring resource and is now equipped with expert knowledge and best practices. The team is enabled to complete the next development phase of the project and the intranet organization structure has been designed correctly and can accommodate the many roles and permissions needed to meet the business requirements.
